Steamboat Curling’s Mission:
The mission of the Steamboat Curling Club is to increase awareness of and
participation in the sport of curling and to promote the spirit of curling in the Yampa Valley community. By providing a first-class sporting experience guided by the positive and motivating spirit of curling, the SSCC will foster the growth of the sport among members of the community, including youth, adults, seniors, and those with mental and physical challenges. The organization will develop programs that lead to local, national, and international competition; coordinate and develop interscholastic competition; and create public awareness and appreciation for the sport.
Steamboat Curling and the Oak Creek Curlers have been operating for the past two years by renting ice time, at the Four Seasons Ice Rink in Oak Creek, CO, and the Howelsen Ice Arena in Steamboat Springs, CO.
Ice time has been limited due to commitments to other recreational ice sports, which hinders our organization’s development of Learn to Curl sessions, youth and senior clinics, disabled leagues, and other programs vital to our mission.
This lack of availability combined with less-than-ideal playing conditions (resulting from use of an ice surface not dedicated to curling) has prompted Steamboat Curling to begin fundraising towards securing a curling facility within the Yampa Valley region. Location scouting is underway to purchase or lease existing space, with the ambitious goal of beginning construction of a year-round, dedicated curling facility by 2022.
